Ijen and Bromo are the most-traveled highlights of East Java. Mount Ijen has the famous blue flame, acidic lake and back-breaking activity of the sulfur miners.
Mount Bromo has specific, terrific attractions and dimensions. It has beautiful landscape, stunning sunrise view, unique sea of sand and smoking crater.
You will also enjoy the culture of the Tenggernese, a Hindu community in the mid of Java’s muslim majority.
This overland tour is organized to take you explore the nature wonders of both and is highly recommended for outdoor enthusiasts who love hiking, trekking or photographing landscapes.
HIGHLIGHTS
At Ijen, after receiving instructions on safety and following the allocation of the necessary equipment (lamps, gas mask, etc), we will start the hike at around 01.00 AM. Our experienced guide will lead you along a beautiful mountain path under starry sky. The hike to reach the top at altitude 2769m will take between 1.5 to 2 hours.
Once reaching the top, the most exciting part begins. We will descend in complete darkness into the volcano crater to observe the unique nature phenomenon of ‘blue flames’. Our guides who are basically made of former sulfur miners, will help you descend safely and attend you during observing so as to ensure best experience within safety measures.
At around 05.00 AM, we will go back to the top of the crater and watch the sunrise above the large acid lake. Before descending, we will take the time to appreciate the surrounding surreal scene, enjoying the sunrise above the turquoise lake while watching the miners carry sulfur blocks on their shoulders up to the crater rim!
At Bromo, we start our journey as early as 03.00 AM before dawn and drive up to Penanjakan viewpoint at altitude 2770m aboard a 4WD car. As the sun comes up, you will witness spectacular view across Bromo and Semeru, Java’s highest peak. Depending on weather condition, sight of sea of clouds frequently covers Bromo’s caldera, an early morning nature phenomenon that will blow your mind.
As the sun rises, we will drive down to the sea of sand at Bromo’s caldera and head to the sacred Hindu temple which sits at the foot of Mount Bromo and Batok. Making our way around the temple, we will go up a steep narrow path and climb 250 steps to reach top of Bromo (altitude 2392m). Only then, stunned by the sounds coming from the entrails of the Earth, and the cool of the night, will be able to experience the beauty of the smoking crater, its sulfur vapors emanating from the depths of the volcano. A truly unforgettable moment!
