Kintamani – Besakih Temple

A full-day tour to explore two of Bali best highlights, Kintamani geo-site highland from where to view Mount Batur volcano, and Bali’s mother temple of Besakih located on the foot of majestic Mount Agung. Along the way, we will also visit Pura Puseh Batuan Temple, the elephant cave temple of Goa Gajah, Tirta Empul holy spring temple and the Kertagosa Pavilion.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pura Puseh Batuan Temple is the focal landmark in the namesake of Batuan village which is famous for its Balinese traditional paintings. Its main draws are the well-preserved sandstone carving motifs and its Balinese traditional architecture.
  • Located near Ubud, Goa Gajah is a sanctuary that is believed to be built in the 9th The complex has both Hindu and Buddhist imagery, as the cave contains lingam and yoni, symbol of Shiva, and the image of Ganesha, while by the river there are carved images of stupas and chattra, imagery of Buddhism.
  • Tirta Empul is located near Tampaksiring which literally means holy spring. The temple compound consists of bathing structure, famous for its holy spring, where Balinese Hindus go for ritual purification. The temple pond has spring which gives out fresh water regularly, which the Balinese consider to be holy.
  • Kintamani is perched atop the western edge of the larger caldera wall of Mount Batur and is the most popular spot to view this geo-site region. You will have your lunch at a restaurant here with fabulous view overlooking the volcano, caldera and lake.
  • Considered as the mother of all temples in Bali, Besakih is perched nearly 1000 meters up the side of the majestic Mount Agung in east Bali. This is the most important, the holiest and the largest temple complex in the island. It is an extensive complex of 23 separate but related temples with the largest and most important being Pura Penataran Agung. The temple is built on six levels, terraced up the slope. The entrance is marked by a split gateway to the second courtyard.
  • Kertagosa pavilion is an example of Balinese architecture located in Klungkung. Kertagosa literally means “the place where the king meets his ministers to discuss question of justice”. It was built in the 18th century and repainted in 1920s and again in 1960s. Highlight of the pavilion is the Mahaberata epic called Bhima Swarga depicted on the ceiling.
